Our goal for this project was to create an open, aesthetically pleasing space, while maintaining fire and life safety. We used two horizontal coiling fire shutters (model H200), manufactured by McKeon Door Company, to separate the second floor from the third floor. One of the shutters closed off a 16’ x 17’ opening and the other closed off a 4’ x 32’ opening. The automatic closing H200 Series horizontal shutters prevent the migration of heat, smoke or hot/toxic gases by creating vertical compartments thereby separating the vertical spaces from one another.
