The convenience stair at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln learning center connects each floor during normal school operation. In order to close off the stair, we installed a 47′-4″ wide x 10′-6″ high McKeon Safescape S7900 bi-parting side coiling fire door with two integrated egress doors. The coiling doors curve around the stairway, meeting in the middle. When the building goes into alarm, the 3-hour rated side coiling assembly with conforming egress swing doors and conventional fire exit hardware provides shaft enclosure protection. In addition, the university uses this door assembly as a security door, securing the stairway each night.
