Aldrich Elementary

Skold Door Company worked closely with the design team at StruXture Architects in Waterloo to help design several safe rooms that would provide near-absolute protection for students and faculty without sacrificing natural light and multi-purpose use. We were able to accomplish this by protecting the large windows in several of the learning studios with McKeon’s SafeSpace 500 model, FEMA 361 and ICC 500 tested and certified coiling doors. These doors allow wide span openings for abundant natural light into the spaces but can also sustain a 240 psf wind pressure (1.2 times the design wind pressure of 200 psf) with the turn of a key.
